WHAT IS IT? Aromatherapy simply means “therapy using aromas”. The aromas come from flowers, trees, bushes and herbs. Aromatherapy is a natural way to maintain harmony and balance in our lives. Aromatherapists blend therapeutic essential oils suited to each person and use methods such as massage, inhalation or water immersion to produce the desired responses.
The usual method for extracting essences is steam distillation. This produces a liquid with a distinctive fragrance. In many cases, the liquid may have antiseptic, anti-viral and/or anti-bacterial properties according to the individual plant. High-quality essential oils are many times more concentrated than the original plant source. It is important to use only the purest essential oils, i.e. oils that have not been diluted or adulterated.
WHAT DOES IT DO? Aromatherapy uses aromatic essential oils medicinally to improve the health of the body, mind and spirit. The chemical constituents of the oils produce different emotional and physiological responses. The essential oil ingredients are absorbed quickly into the skin via the hair follicles, with almost instant effect.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? Aromatherapy has been known to treat headaches and insomnia, fight viruses and fungi, ease the discomfort of labour, soothe sore joints, treat asthma, fatigue, depression, menstrual issues, cancer, menopause, arthritis and anxiety, manage pain, improve quality of sleep, boost immunity and improve digestion.
