Dietitian

WHAT IS IT? A Dietitian is not a doctor but an allied health practitioner who shares information on eating a well-balanced food program and helps people change their eating habits and understand the benefits of healthy eating and nutrition. 

A Dietitian must have a university degree in Nutrition and Dietetics which is a 4-year degree. This is the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist. A Nutritionist normally has studied health science and Nutrition at TAFE or applied science at university.

WHAT DOES IT DO? There are many different types of Dietitian but they all provide expert nutrition and diet advice and have the same goal of improving their clients’ health and nutrition. Dietitian work in many fields, including sports, community, business, clinics, consultancies, food services, paediatrics, neonatal care, research and gerontology.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS? A Dietitian provide professional advice to people of all ages and are known to help people who suffer from high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer, food allergies, gastrointestinal diseases and all forms of eating disorders.
